Course 1: Effective Training for Mind and Body
The aim of this course is to show you how your mind works, how it affects your performance, and how to use it to best prepare for golf. When you know how that lump of grey matter between your ears works, you'll be better able to notice when you are sabotaging your performance, and be ready to take action.
This course is a foundation for the other courses because it effectively brings together the worlds of technical golf and mental golf in a concrete way. The course is in two main parts, one covering the mental side of training, one covering effective practice.
Part 1 - How Your Mind Affects Your Performance
We will start with a brief overview of how your brain makes sense of the world, and how it can affect the way you see the world around you. We'll examine how your patterns and habits either help or hinder your performance, and teach you simple but effective ways to set goals that you can really achieve.
We'll then move on to the role of expectations, and how these can have a huge impact, not only on your performance, but also on your enjoyment of the game. You'll learn how changing your way of thinking can dramatically change not only your game, but perhaps your entire life.
Finally, you'll discover why relaxation is so important and the reason why everything so often falls apart when you find yourself under pressure on the course.
Part 2 -Effective Practice
In this part of the course, you'll learn why most of the practice that golfers do is pointless and how to make sure the practice you do counts when you get out on the course.
You also learn how to make the most of your lessons, and how using your mind can help you to practice.
Finally, you'll learn how to effectively measure your practice, so that you can easily tell whether a problem is technical or mental, and build your confidence based on solid facts rather than feelings.
